Not Very! All pearls need gentle care and attention to keep their natural beauty and lustrous shine. With the right care, your pearls can continue to glow and captivate for years to come. Always store them separately from other jewellery to avoid scratches, and remember to wipe them gently with a soft cloth after wearing to maintain their radiant sheen.
Ultrasonic: Never use
Steamer: Never use
Heat: May cause the pearl to burn and loose its natural outer coating
Chemicals: Never wear your pearls in a swimming or spa pool. Even perfume and hand creme can damage pearls.
Pearls are not for everyday wear, and one should take care when wearing. Avoid exposure to heat and protect from scratches and harsh blows. Avoid contact with chemicals, especially perfumes, perspiration and hair sprays. To clean, wipe gently with a moist cloth.
How are pearls formed?
Pearls are nature’s exquisite gemstones, formed inside the shells of mollusks like oysters and mussels. The process begins when an irritant, such as a grain of sand or a tiny parasite, gets inside the shell. To protect itself, the mollusk secretes a smooth, lustrous substance called nacre, or mother-of-pearl, around the irritant. Layer upon layer of nacre is deposited over time, eventually forming a pearl. This natural process can take several years, resulting in pearls that are unique, rare, and beautiful.
Today, most pearls are cultivated in pearl farms, where the process is carefully managed to produce high-quality pearls with consistent shape and shine.
